Contractors work inside a steel caisson to position a concrete slab, which is part of a new public access slipway being built for the Dunedin City Council near the Otago Yacht Club’s premises in Magnet St.

Construction of the new Magnet St public boat ramp began about two weeks ago, a council spokesman said.

"The new ramp replaces an existing one that is in a deteriorating condition, and will improve public access to Otago Harbour," he said.

Contractors were working to lay precast concrete sections of the new ramp before a concrete abutment was poured at the top end to secure the precast units.

Once that work was finished, a new floating pontoon would be added, the spokesman said.

"The new ramp replaces an existing one that is in a deteriorating condition, and will improve public access to Otago Harbour", that's funny considering the dcc don't want to spend any money dredging so boats and yachts can't get into and out of this area.
