More thefts in Dunedin

Thieves with a sweet tooth have stolen K-bars and "small chocolate miniatures" as well as a cash register from a Ravensbourne commercial premises.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said a glass pane from the front door of the property was smashed to gain entry and one of the thieves may have been injured as blood was discovered inside.

The amount of money inside the cash register was not disclosed.

The theft occurred on Ravensbourne Rd between 7.40pm Monday and 9.15am yesterday.

Over $1000 worth of property was taken from a Forth St, Dunedin North, residence.

Household items had been stored in a bedroom over the summer and a tenant returned on March 15 to find a Sky television decoder, clothing, a bed base and mattress and photographs missing, Snr Sgt Waru said.

The theft was reported to police yesterday.

Police are also warning car owners in Ravensbourne and Caversham to be vigilant as thefts from cars increase.

A locked and secured vehicle on Adderley Tce, Ravensbourne, was entered sometime between Monday and yesterday and a stereo, speakers and an amplifier were stolen.

The car was sitting on the road outside the property, Snr Sgt Waru said.

Four cars were entered on Morrison St, Caversham, between 8pm Monday and 8am yesterday.

Three cars belonged to the residents of one address on the street.

Money and identification was taken from one of the vehicles but there was no indication anything had been taken from the others, she said.

"There's obviously a wee bit of activity in Ravensbourne and Caversham," Snr Sgt Waru said.

"We would like to reiterate [that] people lock their vehicles and put things away [out of sight]."

If people see any suspicious activity they should contact Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
