Mosgiel Memorial Returned and Services Association president Debbie Kennedy and vice-president Chris Helm, after they observed a minute’s silence at the club’s premises in Church St at 11am on Saturday to remember VJ Day.

The day marked the victory of Allied forces over Japan, on August 15, 1945, after nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Covid-19 lockdown restrictions led to the cancellation of planned RSA VJ events throughout the country, including in Wellington on Saturday.

Mrs Kennedy said it was important to remember key anniversary events this year, including VE (Victory in Europe) Day and VJ Day.
