Two Dunedin men are due to appear in court this week for allegedly assaulting police officers at the weekend.
On Sunday morning, an 18-year-old allegedly spat in the face of a police officer who had issued the teenager with a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt while in the front passenger seat of a vehicle being driven in Smith St.
The teenager was arrested and charged with assaulting police.
Also on Sunday, about 4.10am, a 25-year-old student allegedly tried to punch a police officer who offered to give the man a ride home from hospital.
Senior Sergeant Mel Aitken said the man was receiving medical treatment, having been involved in an incident in which windows were smashed.
The officer said he would drive the man home, but the accused took exception to the offer, Snr Sgt Aitken said.
"He took a swing at the officer, narrowly missing his head.
"He was arrested and charged with assaulting police," she said.
