A crowd of more than 15,000 took in the sights of Dunedin’s heritage gem during the Vogel St Party, blessed mainly by sunny weather.

Vogel St Party Charitable Trust chairman Brendan Christie said the party on the 17degC day was "great", attracting  a "massive turnout".

"The weather is dry, our events are humming, performers are getting great crowds, smiles on people’s faces, kids laughing — what more could you want?"

"Anything between 15,000 and 20,000 [people] we are pretty happy about," Mr Christie said.

Opposite  Queens Gardens, people  queued to view  the interior of the former Terminus Hotel.

Mr Christie said the art installations provided a highlight of the event, along with  the silent disco.

"Having that in Dunedin is awesome," he said.

"People are turning up in their droves."

Pole dancing group Vertical Aerial Dance attracted a lot of attention from the crowds.

Member Kayla Boland said the group placed a feminist emphasis on the dance form.

"It’s pretty feminist and I’m into that,’’ she said.

"It’s cool to be part of a group of girls reclaiming their bodies."

Miss Boland had performed the art for just over a year.

"I used to do gymnastics and have always wanted to do something that involves strength and flexibility," she said.

Musicians, magicians and other entertainers kept the crowd happy, as the party continued into the early evening.
