Man severely injured in Brockville assault

A 43-year-old Dunedin man is recovering from severe facial injuries after an alleged assault in Brockville.

The man had at least one fractured eye socket and ''possibly two'', Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said.

The man was drinking alcohol with a 38-year-old Cromwell man on Thursday evening, ''and it went downhill from there'', Snr Sgt Aitken said.

The Cromwell man allegedly punched the victim in the face about 6pm.

The Cromwell man was arrested and charged with assault.

He is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court on the charge, as well as for an alleged breach of bail.
