A man critically injured in a head-on crash on the Otago Peninsula this week has survived surgery and is in a stable condition in hospital.
The two-car crash happened about 3.50pm on Monday, when two utility vehicles collided between Broad Bay and Portobello in Portobello Rd, leaving one person critically injured and the second with moderate injuries.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said this morning the critically injured man had survived surgery and was in a stable condition in hospital.
Senior Constable Aaron Smith, of Portobello, said the investigation was in its early stages and there remained a large number of witnesses to interview.
The Serious Crash Unit was investigating and no charges have yet been laid.
