Southern District police are tonight warning drivers to take care on the roads and delay unnecessary travel due to icy conditions across the district.
Police said there were areas of black ice in the hill suburbs of Dunedin and in Balclutha, Milton, and Waihola.
SH1 from Balclutha to Clinton was particularly treacherous with black ice.
Drivers were also asked to check for condition updates tomorrow morning before they set off for the day.
The icy conditions come after a bitterly cold front brought snow to much of the South over the weekend, including the hill suburbs of Dunedin.
