The Otago Community Hospice will hold its annual street appeal for the first time in three years.
Volunteers of the Otago Community Hospice will be shaking buckets and collecting donations throughout the Otago region today.
Fundraising co-ordinator Amy Ruthven said the target this year was about $40,000.
All donations would go directly towards palliative care for Otago hospice patients.
She felt relieved to be holding the event in-person, after three years of Covid disruptions.
"We’re super excited — we’ve really missed the community engagement," she said.
The fundraiser was held online last year, although it did not generate as many donations as previous in-person events had.
"You get so much more out of that face-to-face interaction.
"We get much better exposure and reach a wider audience at street events."
Dunedin residents would be able to find an "army" of hospice volunteers on George St and outside most supermarkets and businesses today, she said.
