Mrs O’Shea, who is also chief operating officer, will depart on July 27. The long-serving executive was chief operating officer of the now-defunct Southland District Health Board before it merged with Otago in 2010. Mrs O’Shea has accepted a general manager role at the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board.
In an email to staff this week, chief executive Chris Fleming said Mrs O’Shea’s contribution spanned "decades".
She started as a medical laboratory technologist before working her way through the ranks of management.
Her responsibilities included the "significant challenge and responsibility of managing the integration of services provided as the Southland and Otago DHBs merged".
Previously, Mr Fleming has said the restructuring will save about $2 million over two years. Mr Fleming said the DHB did not need a dedicated deputy chief executive, and has proposed a new role to encompass the duties of chief operating officer. The confirmed new structure will be unveiled later this month.
