Wingatui Community Hall Society treasurer Brian Isaac was last night expelled from the hall committee and membership for at least five years.
Six hall committee members met at the hall last night and unanimously voted for the expulsion of Mr Isaac, who was not present.
His apology, and those of three other executive members, were recorded at the meeting.
Chairwoman Bex Hill also put forward a motion, which was passed unanimously, for the society to take Mr Isaac to the Disputes Tribunal to recover money spent on legal fees as a result of his reincorporation of the society "without approval".
Rules for the hall and issues surrounding them have been the subject of bitter feuding between two factions of the committee.
Committee member Yvon Adams said at the meeting last night that she appreciated Mr Isaac had started a lot of things with good intentions.
"But this has gone beyond a joke." Mr Isaac could not be contacted after the meeting last night.
