Electricity was lost at places such as Sawyers Bay and Roseneath today after vegetation struck power lines.
Aurora Energy said 777 customers were affected by the outage.
The power was knocked out just after 10am and restored by about 1.50pm, the company reported.
The outage extended into rural areas and affected properties included those in Upper Junction Rd, Waitati Valley Rd, Mt Cargill Rd and Blueskin Rd.
Fire and Emergency NZ recorded an incident that was labelled a vegetation fire at Sawyers Bay.
A Fenz spokesman said crews did not see any fire, but power lines were down.
The incident was passed on to Aurora.
