Bayfield High School student Andrew Lee, 16, points at Jelly Jelly! — a game he made in two days — alongside his team-mates Hugo Poland (front left), 17, and William Ashton, 17, from John McGlashan, at the fourth annual Otago Polytechnic Game Jam.

Behind them are their mentors bachelor of information technology (BIT) students Jenna Boyes (back left) and Keyra Webb.

Information technology senior lecturer Grayson Orr said senior students from five secondary schools across Dunedin game to the Game Jam over the weekend to get a taste of what it would be like to study for the degree at the Otago Polytechnic.

The student mentors had gone down the game pathway in their degrees — some of them had attended the Game Jam as secondary students.

The participants chose to make games with either "underwater adventure" or "time traveller" as a theme.

"The students drive the creativity", Mr Orr said.
