The man who died while fishing at Cape Saunders on the Otago Peninsula has been named.

He was 47-year-old Clinton Kino.

Mr Kino was swept off the rocks on December 21, by a rogue wave.

Another man who was fishing with him was flown to hospital after he jumped into the water and tried to support his friend while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
