Mr Day and radio announcer Damian Newell went up against Highlander Liam Coltman at the Brighton Gala Day's Harder than a Highlander competition.
It was Mr Day who won the competition, pulling ahead in the log-splitting event and keeping the lead through the obstacle course.
He admitted the first challenge, carrying a junior surf lifeguard in a "fireman's" hold over about 50m, was not his strong event.
"The run wasn't too good but I caught up in the end," Mr Day said after the competition.
Both men left Coltman in the dust after he struggled with the firewood-chopping challenge.
The competition was one of many events held at the annual Brighton Gala Day at the Brighton Domain yesterday.
Gala co-organiser Scott Weatherall said strong winds were a "bit of killer" for the day, preventing planned helicopter rides and causing some stallholders to head home earlier or not turn up at all.
"That was a bit disappointing, but we appreciated those stallholders who were committed to the cause and stayed."
While the sun shone for most of the day and it did not rain, he thought the windy conditions meant they were "down a couple of hundred" people on previous years' attendances.
The thousands that did attend would have gone home a "bit wind burnt and sunburnt" but he hoped they had enjoyed the day.
The committee had increased the signage for things such as toilets but the wind blew many of them away, he said.
