A mini-triathlon for Dunedin’s youngest athletes drew a crowd of about 1000 people to Logan Park yesterday.
Sport Otago events lead Sophie Russell said about 300 "athletes" aged 2 to 6 years old took part in this year’s "Stride, Ride and Slide".
"They stride around the field, and then they hop on their bikes to do the ride — and then they finish off with an awesome water slide" Miss Russell said.
This year, like many others, firefighters from Willowbank Fire Station crewed the popular splashy end of the course.
As usual the largest contingent was the 3-year-olds.
"This event is kind of targeting those younger age groups to give them something to have a go and give them that opportunity to be involved in an event like this before they get to that school age" she said.
"The parents definitely do help them out, but it's just as much fun for the kids as it is for the parents."
She said this year had been "super successful" and organisers had received "some awesome feedback" from parents.
"It's an event that we've run for many years through Sport Otago, and it's one that I don't see stopping anytime soon because it's just so much fun."
