Hundreds of rugby fans braved cold conditions in Dunedin yesterday to meet the All Blacks.

About 400 crowded into the Southern Rugby Football clubrooms at Bathgate Park to receive a signed photograph and talk to the All Blacks.

Another 300 met team members at Peter Johnstone Park in Mosgiel.

Sharon Tayles brought her children, Ella (4) and Max (7), to Bathgate Park.

"It was an opportunity for the children to get close to the All Blacks," she said.

"It was special for Max, who turns 8 tomorrow."

Ben Hotton (11), the grandson of Steve Hotton who played 146 games for Otago between 1983 and 1993, was one of four players from the Southern club's under-12 team meeting the All Blacks.

The others were Zac Cross (11), Craig Hooper (12) and Connor Harris (11).

At Peter Johnstone Park, stand-in captain Rodney So'oialo, Mosgiel-born lock Brad Thorn, new All Black Kevin O'Neill, Daniel Carter and former John McGlashan pupil Andrew Hore were on duty and Liam Sabiston (5), a member of the Taieri under 7s Rippa rugby team, was thrilled to meet several of his heroes.
