Contractors secure the footpath under a glass veranda at the Westpac Building in George St yesterday before replacing a pane of glass.

"This was emergency work, and traffic management was needed to keep the public and those doing the work safe," Dunedin City Council transport acting group manager Richard Saunders said.

The work was not weather-related.

"A traffic management company handled this for the contractors, fixing the window on the building owner’s behalf."
