Elton John fans have been snapping up tickets to his one Dunedin show this morning.

General sale tickets to the mega pop star's show at Forsyth Barr Stadium went on sale this morning at 9am.

Many potential concert-goers struggled to buy tickets in the initial rush and many were told the show had sold out just after they went on sale.

Tickets for some premium sections were unavailable at 10.30am, but they remained available for some other sections.

Those wary of using their computers to secure tickets instead lined up outside the box office at the Regent Theatre this morning to buy their tickets in person.

There were about 25 people lined up at 9am and many had secured a prime spot in the line by arriving hours earlier.

Organisers are expecting another sellout crowd when Sir Elton John rockets back to Dunedin as part of his farewell tour next year.

The concert will form part of the three-show New Zealand leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which also includes performances in Hawke's Bay and Auckland.
