The 32-year-old Dunedin Noel Leeming store manager has been named New Zealand's Young Retailer of the Year at the annual Wares Magazine Awards held recently in Auckland. And with all that he does in his work life, it is hard to imagine how he finds the time to do it.
Mr Templeton has been manager of the store since 2008, which has become the brand's fourth largest store by turnover.
He is also responsible for the lower South Island's distribution hub, as well as a technical solutions service which covers customers from Invercargill to Timaru.
Mr Templeton said his top achievement in the past year had been becoming Fisher and Paykel's largest retail partner in terms of value and volume, by stocking the Kiwi brand's range in depth, and creating a culture in which his 35-plus staff believe in the brand.
He said the award was ''the pinnacle of the appliance industry awards'' and felt honoured he was one of several staff from Noel Leeming stores around the country to have won the award in recent years.
''It's pretty awesome.
''It's recognition of seven and a-half years of a lot of hard work.
''It's also a sign of the support I've got from my team and the wider network.''
Wares Magazine director Simon Little said Mr Templeton's exceptional service and outstanding leadership made him deserving of the award.
As part of the award, Mr Templeton received a travel grant to visit an international trade show, and a study grant for an Auckland University Business School short course of his choice.
