The New Zealand Hot Rod Association 50th anniversary display will feature more than 100 classic cars and hot rods at the Edgar Centre on Saturday.
Dunedin classic car enthusiast Gary McNeill will be displaying his rare 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird at the show.
The car is one of only two in New Zealand and caused quite a stir on outings, Mr McNeill said.
"It's an addiction. It was the first car to do 200mph and was built specifically for Nascar racing. They had to make 500 of them for the homologation for Nascar."
The Plymouth is nudged along by a 440cu in (7.2-litre) V8, producing nearly 300kW, and will be one of 120 lovingly-restored cars at the display.
"It's an enjoyment thing. It's nice to see these old cars still on the road. It's also a very family-oriented thing. A lot of us are getting grey hair now, but there are still quite a few young guys involved," Pre-49 Street Rodders president Reon McPherson said.
Restoring and modifying classic cars was a popular pastime in New Zealand, he said.
"Population-wise, we've got a lot of hot rods and street cars in New Zealand, compared with the United States.
"We'll also have a Harley-Davidson motorcycle display. We wanted to fill the hall with as much stuff as we could, so there will be something for everyone to look at."
The display runs at the Edgar Centre from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.
A convoy of hot rods will leave the Edgar Centre at 10am on Sunday.
