A 40-year-old female learner driver finished a lesson with her husband on Sunday by parking the car ''sideways'' in the driveway of a repeatedly unlucky Dunedin resident, police say.

Senior Sergeant Bruce Ross, of Dunedin, said a woman, being given a driving lesson by her husband in a Mitsubishi hatchback, crashed about noon on Sunday.

The woman ''over-accelerated'' when negotiating a ''steep, sharp right'' turn from Adderley Tce to Junction Rd, in Ravensbourne, and hit the kerb, he said.

The hatchback ''flopped'' down a bank and hit a parked red Holden sedan in a driveway below. The sedan stopped the hatchback from rolling on its roof.

Dominique Aitcheson said she had lived at the house for four years and the sedan with minor damage was her husband's.

Her husband had heard two loud bangs and looked out his window to see a neighbour running to help people from the car on its side in the driveway.

The car ended up in ''exactly the same spot'' as another that crashed about two years ago, when a drunk driver ''cornered too fast'', she said.

Ravensbourne Chief Fire Officer Ross Bryant said he attended the crash, similar to another he attended in the driveway about 10 years ago, when a motorist was blinded by the sun.

On Sunday, the husband had remained ''cool and calm'' but the wife was ''upset and injured''.

A St John spokeswoman said a person with minor injuries was taken to Dunedin Hospital.
