A driver has been flown to Dunedin Hospital by rescue helicopter in a critical condition after their car crashed into a paddock and flipped near Clarks Junction this afternoon.
A police spokeswoman said State Highway 87 (Clarks Junction-Lee Stream Rd) is closed after the crash near Romarua Farm and Boyd Rd just before 1pm.
The NZ Transport Agency has advised that the road is under stop/go management near Old Dunstan Rd.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the driver was outside their vehicle lying in the paddock when crews arrived from Middlemarch and Outram.
The crews had provided first aid before two ambulances and a rescue helicopter arrived on scene, he said.
