Worksafe has decided against investigating an incident where a Downer worker was seriously injured after being trapped in a ditch by a vehicle.
The incident happened near the top of Ruru Ave in St Leonards, Dunedin, on May 10 while the man was installing fibre-optic cable.
A Downer ute and trailer parked uphill from the ditch appeared to have rolled off their chocks and hit the man.
He had to be freed by firefighters.
St John said at the time the 50-year-old was taken to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
A WorkSafe NZ spokeswoman said it was ''not investigating the incident''.
However, it was ''engaging with Downer'' to seek assurances it had controls in place to prevent similar incidents.
Downer spokeswoman Brooke Dahlberg did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
Comments
Given Downers history of workplace place injuries it would seem to meet all the "threshold" (Worksafe process).
Very serious, and in the public interest.
Another poor outcome by WorkSafe NZ on top of the non investigations of deaths linked to suicide.
An 'incident', not an accident?
Does he get AC?
