A City Rise, Dunedin, student flat resembled a war zone last night after a "lock-down" party of more than 70 alcohol-fuelled guests descended into disorder.

Dunedin police were called to the student flat, at the corner of Constitution and London Sts, about 9.30pm when occupants of the building began smashing the windows, showering the footpath in Constitution St with broken glass.

Soon after, a male fell from a second-floor window to the footpath below and was knocked unconscious. He was taken to Dunedin Hospital with minor injuries.

Constable Jeremy Buis, of Dunedin, said all the furniture in the flat was put in one room so the occupants could "see how many people they could cram in" to the other rooms.

One male was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour when all 70 people were emptied from the building by police, he said.

Residents from nearby houses gathered on the street to watch, some commenting on the stupidity of the party-goers.

Nearby residents said many of the party-goers struggled to walk away because they were so intoxicated.

"Lots of them just stumbled outside and rolled around on the street. They couldn't walk."
