Decision on site reserved

A Dunedin City Council resource consent committee has reserved its decision, and plans to visit the site of a Saddle Hill development.

Calvin Fisher has been turning 250ha of land on Saddle Hill into lots ranging from 15ha to 44ha.

In the final stage of the project, the balance of 100ha is to be subdivided into seven lots of about 15ha.

The council decided the final stage needed a notified hearing. The hearing attracted 38 submissions in support and four opposed.

The committee of Crs Colin Weatherall, Richard Walls and Andrew Noone and Mosgiel Taieri Community Board member Martin Dillon was advised that opposition from the Otago Regional Council, based on concerns about instability of the site, had been resolved.

Mr Fisher, director of Saddle Views Estate, said earlier this year that five houses had been completed in the earlier stage of the development.

The council approved an earlier 10-lot stage of the subdivision in 2002, which was non-notified, meaning it was not advertised, and public submissions were not sought.
