The Dunedin City Council has recruited a New Zealand Transport Agency manager to fill its vacant transport group manager role.
Ian McCabe was this week named to replace Gene Ollerenshaw, who quit while on holiday in Europe in August.
Mr McCabe, a former council senior planner, was the agency's southern region planning and investment manager.
He will rejoin the council on November 23.
Council infrastructure and networks general manager Ruth Stokes said Mr McCabe would bring valuable experience and knowledge to the role.
''Mr McCabe's in-depth knowledge of the NZTA and the relationships he has built with 26 other councils in his years there will contribute hugely to closer working relationships with both central and local government,'' Mrs Stokes said.
His new role would include overseeing work on one of the council's hottest topics, cycleways.
