Two men are being spoken to by Dunedin police after allegedly attempting to rob a man at knife-point in the city centre this morning.

Sergeant John Hedges, of Dunedin, said the attempted aggravated robbery happened near the Leviathan Hotel in Queens Gardens about 2am.

"Two men presented a knife and attempted to rob a man.

"They tried to get him to go to an ATM to withdraw money.''

Sgt Hedges said no-one was injured in the incident.

The two local men had not been arrested, but were being spoken to by police.

"I think there's a bit of history to it,'' he said.

This a joke right?

Meanwhile thousands of lawful firearms owners are being hounded to hand in their lawfully owned property for destruction or face criminal prosecution.

Could the credibility of police get any lower.
