Airport fuel theft prompts alert

Police are urging Taieri cow cockies to secure their bowsers after another theft from a fuel tank in the area.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said someone entered a rental car yard at Dunedin Airport on Friday night and stole 160 litres of petrol and 31 litres of diesel.

Police inquiries to identify the culprit were continuing, he said.

It follows a series of fuel thefts from fuel bowsers on farms on the Taieri last year.

Snr Sgt Dinnissen urged farmers in the area to ensure their tanks were secured and their security lights switched on, as shorter days could present more opportunity for fuel thieves.

High Definition Security cameras with night vision are not that expensive these days and can be installed anywhere, even wirelessly.
Time people started being more prepared and security conscious, unless they like having higher insurance premiums.
