A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they were called to a kitchen fire in Tomahawk Rd, in Ocean Grove, about 12.40pm.
The fire had spread into a wall and crews from St Kilda and Dunedin Central stations worked to put it out
The blaze was extinguished and crews had left the scene by 2.25pm, he said.
