Firefighters have put out a small fire at a house in the Dunedin suburb of St Clair tonight.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said a crew from St Kilda and one from Lookout Point were sent to the home in Sutcliffe St shortly after 5.30pm.

On arrival, they found a small fire in a downstairs room, he said.

The fire was extinguished by 6.20pm.

The spokesman could not say what the cause of the fire was.
