Xander Choveaux (7) and his father Robert, of Dunedin, take apart a computer at Dunedin City Library on Saturday.

The computer deconstruction workshop, facilitated by Com2Tech, was part of the New Zealand International Science Festival. Each computer was donated and children and teenagers were encouraged to "strip it, rebuild it, plug it in and make it go".

Xander said he was interested in how computers worked and how they were connected with software. He had been learning about coding at St Clair School.
