City man hits the Bullseye

Taking a chance on a new game paid off for a Dunedin man who won $410,001 playing Bullseye last month.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, went in to Alexandra New World to buy his weekly Lotto ticket and was encouraged to buy a Bullseye ticket as well.

The Lotto operator told him the prize had reached its jackpot threshold of $400,000 and had to be won that day.

He took the chance, put the tickets in his wallet and thought nothing of it until his wife read a story about a large unclaimed prize, the ticket for which had been sold in Alexandra.

He checked his ticket at a Dunedin store and at first thought he had won $41.

"The retailer had to tell me it wasn't $41, it was $410,001. It was a pleasant surprise," he said.

"It is hard to believe that I was sitting on a gold mine all this time."

He wanted to think for a while about how to invest the money, but one purchase was already planned - double glazing for his house.

Bullseye was introduced late last year.
