Charity car park raises $63,600

Cadbury staff say they are overwhelmed by the generosity of Dunedin motorists.

The company used its car park to raise more than $60,000 in gold coin donations for child health charity Cure Kids.

For the past two years, staff have been volunteering on Saturday mornings, and collecting gold coin donations from motorists hunting for a park near the Otago Farmers Market.

In that time, staff had collected $61,800 in small change from motorists, as well as $1800 during collections for tsunami relief work in Samoa over two days last year.

On Saturday, Cure Kids South Island regional manager Josie Spillane, of Queenstown, was on hand to mark the contribution made by Cadbury staff and Dunedin motorists by giving a confectionery hamper to one lucky motorist.

The money raised would help Cure Kids support research seeking cures for life-threatening illnesses affecting children, which had already led to several significant breakthroughs, she said.
