Mrs Trainor (65) was entered by daughter Kirstyn Stanaway.
Mrs Stanaway said she entered her ''caring'' mother in the competition because she had provided care for older people at Ross Home in Dunedin for 30 years.
In retirement, her mother sang in the Red Cross Choir and regularly looked after her grandchildren.
Mrs Trainor said she was looking forward to having a lunch cooked by family on Mother's Day tomorrow.
Arthur Barnett general manager Sue Smaill said Mrs Trainor's prize pack contained cosmetics, a throw and a dressing gown. Mrs Stanaway won an iPad for entering her mother in the competition.
ODT marketing co-ordinator Jessica Peck said 53 entries were received.
