The structure suffered major damage in recent years after two of its piles snapped off at sea-bed level, and was closed after being deemed a safety hazard.
But club commodore Barry Whipp said during the past two years, the club had been busy fundraising to replace the wharf, and grants from the Otago Community Trust, Southern Trust, Alexander McMillan Trust, Bendigo Valley Foundation, the Poker Run Powerboat Group and the Port Chalmers Community Board had helped the club raise the $26,000 needed for the project.
Work began at the start of August, with Port Otago Ltd driving piles to re-establish the wharf - this time as a double-piled wharf to ensure it can better withstand the strong tidal flows and the wash created by ships passing down the harbour.
Mr Whipp said he and volunteers were putting joists, decking, hand rails and ladders on the piles. It was hoped to finish work in time for the Poker Run Powerboat Charity Race in early November and the Principal Day Regatta on December 1.
''We're making fantastic progress,'' Mr Whipp said.
