A person was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in the scrapyard in Wilkie Road yesterday afternoon.
2.40pm.
The blaze was initially reported as 10mx10m in size.
A worker at the scene said the fire started when a spark from a blowtorch ignited whiteware.
There was no initial report on the extent of any damage, but St John said one person had been taken to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition.
Wilkie Rd was closed at the intersection with King Edward St and police set up traffic cordons around the scene.
A Fenz spokeswoman confirmed last night that the fire was extinguished shortly before 5pm.
