Semi-retired midwife Maureen Donnelly and husband Tony Mobbs have been going to Vanuatu on holiday since 2003 and decided they wanted to do something for the locals.
They discovered the women living in villages had limited access to affordable and comfortable bras, so three years ago they decided to fill their suitcases with bras and take them to Vanuatu.
"You don’t realise just how much it really means," Ms Donnelly said.
"They’re really humble people and they’re just really grateful."
Ms Donnelly said not a lot of tourists donated goods to villagers because they found it awkward.
"To start with we even found it a wee bit awkward offering things as well, but I think if people realised how much it’s appreciated they would do it.
"As tourists it’s just about having the confidence to do things that make a difference."
In the past, the couple had donated bags of rice, concrete, bags, stationery and books to villagers.
The couple had collected the bras by reaching out to their community in Mosgiel using social media and received six bags of them from about 20 people.
Mr Mobbs said the people in Vanuatu were "soccer-mad" and it would be great if people could donate deflated footballs for them to take over and distribute.
