But who can be blamed?
It was hot, damn hot, and the energy levels had to be quickly restocked.
Outram Berry Farms have opened for a short season and are offering all you can pick.
The berries have been there for years but the property changed hands three years ago as the McArthur family moved out of the industry.
New owner Alex Cunningham is selling off this year’s berry crop by getting people to come along and pick their own.
The gates opened on Boxing Day and picking continued over the past couple of days. They were likely to be closed for a couple of days to let the fruit recover.
Ms Cunningham said the fruit was good although there were a few patches which were hit by rain at just the wrong time. There had been crowds of people coming along and picking some berries.
The fruit was still popular with many and picking their own was popular. In total the berries — raspberries were being picked yesterday — covered about 2ha.
McArthur Berry Farms used to operate at the location for more than 50 years, selling berries and ice cream at a retail shop on the property before the family sold the business.
