80th birthday celebration for Prof

Prof Pat Molloy, a retired cardiac surgeon, and his wife, Julia, celebrate his 80th birthday at the University of Otago's executive residence yesterday.

More than 50 of his immediate family - many coming from overseas for the event - including his 11 children attended, as well as many of his 33 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and family friends.

Daughter Allison Molloy said the party was an opportunity to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his generosity, extraordinary intelligence and enormous compassion.

"He's our hero."

Prof Molloy, who has an identical twin, Joseph, said it was wonderful to be surrounded by family and to celebrate his birthday this way.
