Eleanor Moyle (82) is conductor of the 28-member women-only Dunedin Red Cross Choir.

The service and fundraising choir is the only one in New Zealand and Australia and one of only three in the world.

What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?

When I was about 10 years old, a maiden aunt gave me a big box with a ribbon around it. Inside was a black kitten with an orange bow around its neck, sitting on an orange cushion.

What smell do you find irresistible?

Chocolates.

If you were going to an island and could take only three things, what would they be and why?

My Bible, because I read it every day; some photographs of my family, because they mean a lot to me; and, I'd probably have to take some food.

What's something only your family knows about you?

I like fleecy, lined sheets in the winter.

You are a new addition to the crayon box. What colour are you, and why?

Purple, because I'm a royalist and because there are so many lovely shades of purple.
