Amisfield executive chef Vaughan Mabee has been named 44th in global competition the Top 100 Best Chef Awards.

The awards were announced in Mexico earlier this week. Other chefs named include Rene Redpezi, of Denmark, who finished fourth, and British chef Heston Blumenthal, who was named 49th.

Amisfield chief executive Simon Toneycliffe said the Lake Hayes business was beyond delighted.

"This recognition of Vaughan Mabee’s talent further confirms Amisfeld’s position as a leader in the global food scene and solidifies its achievement as New Zealand’s best restaurant of this year," he said.

"It is truly remarkable that a winery restaurant can realise this level of recognition."

Dabiz Muñoz from Spain’s DiverXO secured the top position on the list. Albert Adrià from Spain’s Engima was second and Ana Roš from Slovenia’s Hiša Franko was third.
