Company Director
Candidate for the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board
Background
Grew up in Dunedin, I left Dunedin at 23 with $1000 and a bed. Since then, I have built one of New Zealand’s most successful motor companies employing 220 people with annual revenues of $330M. In 2003 I purchased Islington, East Taieri where my young family and I now live permanently. Actively involved with Taieri Cricket as a player and junior coach, and involved in managing a junior team at Mosgiel Football.
Involvement in local body politics
Motivated only by what I see Mosgiel, the Taieri and Dunedin could be with stronger leadership. All fees or income received from my community service will be returned in full to a Taieri based charity.
Key issues for Mosgiel - Taieri
The messaging coming from the Taieri Community Board has been negative, inconsistent, ineffective and largely ignored by the DCC. Someone needs to galvanise the community behind the issues and take the agenda to the DCC, rather than just reacting to what comes our way.
Get long overdue action on redirecting heavy traffic away from Gordon Road.
Ensure that the ORC / DCC prioritise flood protection for Gordon Road and the low-lying areas of the Taieri.
Convert the Taieri Gorge Rail Corridor into an extension of the Central Otago Rail Trail which will deliver ten times the financial benefit to the Taieri and Dunedin communities, for one tenth of the cost.
Support businesses and families to move to and thrive on the Taieri.
