"It is our pleasure to present some of the highlights of our Kavanagh College 2019 year. We have had outstanding academic achievement results including
our Excellence rates at Level 1, 2 and 3 being nearly double the National Average. This is a rewarding result considering our focus on students extending themselves to gain the higher grades. We congratulate Tobias Devereux who gained a Ministry of Education Gifted Learner Award and gained a medal in ICAS Digital Technologies competition; and Rosa Latton who gained a Royal Society Powering Potential Scholarship to attend a Problem Solving camp - one of the 16 places in New Zealand.
Our sports teams continue to have significant success both locally and nationally and have gained three national titles this year. We are proud to congratulate our international swimmer and gold medallist Erika Fairweather on her success during 2019. There are a number of our students who have competed in international sports events this year and we were pleased to support them from afar.
Culturally, Kavanagh has again produced stunning results. Our annual, whole school production, 'Annie', was well received by a full theatre over three nights and our junior students are currently preparing for the traditional school pantomime with the support of senior students. The Bishop's Shield again hangs on our wall after winning this prestigious Catholic public speaking competition for Otago and Southland in August. For the first time in a number of years we will again offer dance in the senior curriculum. We look forward to the development of our new performing arts centre due to begin in the very near future.
Thank you to our committed college community who value a holistic, strongly pastoral and faith based education. We appreciate your ongoing support. Our students live our Catholic special character on a daily basis through care for one another and for those outside of our college who need and deserve our support.
As a commitment to a high quality year 7 and 8 learning experience, we are pleased to be able to offer smaller class sizes in 2020 and a focus on the love of learning for our youngest students. Our junior roll is growing, but please feel free to enquire about our limited numbers of vacancies for the coming year.
We wish all of our extended college community a safe and restful holiday period and a blessed Christmas. We look forward to continuing our journey with you in 2020.
