McKenzie sparked a cult-like devotion to the character of 'Figwit' - it stands for "Frodo is great ... who is that?" - after a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in 2001's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
McKenzie admitted to Empire magazine that Jackson had asked him back for a scene in one of his upcoming Hobbit movies.
"It was in Wellington so I could pretty much walk to work," McKenzie said.
"It's still a small part - I did a couple of days earlier this year - but it was great to get my pointy ears back on. It's in 3D, so the ears will be extra pointy. You'll be able to touch the ears."
McKenzie, who is one half of folk-comedy duo Flight of the Conchords with Jemaine Clement, said there were a few changes in store for Figwit, including a name change.
"I've got a proper name this time: Lindir. In the book he was a musical elf. This time, if I make the edit, I'll speak in Elvish. But I don't sing."
And he admitted Figwit fans might raise an eyebrow after his scenes.
"Oh yeah. I look like I'm 12. I look much more like a girl in The Hobbit. I look like a hot girl."
