The arts of sculpture and wine-making combine at Rippon Vineyard from tomorrow until May 3 with the opening of a large-scale public installation in the vineyard's grounds.

Wanaka gallery owners Norma Dutt and Peter Gregg have helped host "Sculpture in Central Otago" at Bannockburn since 2004.

Now operating under the Wanaka Arts Charitable Trust, the annual event comes to Wanaka for the first time and will feature works by Gretchen Albrecht, Graham Bennett, Julie Butler, Jonathan Campbell, Bing Dawe, Regan Gentry, Mark Hill, Greg Johns, Hannah Kidd, Cheryl Lucas, Phil Newbury, Peter Nicholls, Phil Price, Rebecca Rose, Dan Rutherford, Llew Summers, and Leon van den Eijkel.

Painter Don Binney will attend as guest speaker.

Environmental concerns and sustainability issues have informed the artists' works and are also close to the hearts of Rippon Vineyard directors Nick and Jo Mills, who have developed their wine-making business on biodynamic principles.

The event opens with a ticket-only function tomorrow and the vineyard opens to the public on Saturday and Sunday for two days of picnics, live music and artists' talks.

The weekend entry fee is $15 (children under 15 free). From Monday until May 3, entrance is $5, with access through the tasting room.
