The full programme for the festival is released tonight, but a list of participating artists revealed this week has a typically eclectic look.
"Blindfolds, country music comedians, rockabilly gypsy punk and tape artists" all feature in the South Island's only fringe festival, as part of a line-up of more than 50 comedy, music, dance, theatre and visual art acts, fringe organisers said in a statement.
The eighth iteration of the festival runs from 17-27 March.
"The Dunedin fringe has built a reputation as a launching platform for emerging artists," said Paul Smith, festival director.
The biennnial experimental music event Lines of Flight returns, to be staged in Port Chalmers over three days.
Among the music headliners in the fringe are Melbourne seven piece The Barons of Tang and Christchurch-based country dramatists No Depression.
Dunedin will be the first to see several comedy acts that are in New Zealand for the International Comedy Festival in Wellington and Auckland in April.
Among the funny men and women will be Wilson Dixon, cowboy comedian.
Dance is represented by Footnote Dance, which brings Hullapalloi, a new work from Kate McIntosh and Jo Randerson.
Also featuring is human sculpture in the form of "Still Life at the Station".
