Sue Bidrose was appointed to the role in November 2013 and her position has to be advertised this year.
Dr Bidrose declined to comment on whether she sought to extend her time in the role.
However, the council’s chief executive appointment committee will meet tomorrow from noon.
The public will be excluded.
The members of the committee are Mayor Aaron Hawkins and Crs David Benson-Pope, Mike Lord, Marie Laufiso, Jim O’Malley and Chris Staynes.
Dr Bidrose was the general manager of services and development for the council before she accepted the top job, replacing Paul Orders.
Dr Bidrose was reappointed for a two-year term in late 2018.
She has consistently sought to decline or limit pay rises for herself while she has been chief executive.
She started on $350,000 and in August last year she was reported to be on $444,000, after being obliged to accept more pay.

How would that work? Those complaining aren't likely to be hired are they with people like you in charge.
The DCCs chief executive appointment committee has already made its decision. I know they haven't even met yet but that's a mere formality. Bidrose has the job. Not because she is the best-qualified candidate. DCC cant hire the best-qualified candidate because it wouldn't be politically correct. Consequently, the people of Dunedin will be stuck with the least qualified, overpaid city manager in the history of the country.
That might be so but from what I have seen she is a darn sight smarter and more cunning than most of our lazy councillors who are supposed to keep her accountable. People shouldn't be fooled into thinking it is Hawkins that runs the show, he is just a puppet!
I would love to see the selection criteria:
Must have extreme greens values
Member of the Alphabet community preferred
Ability to provide political advice to beginner councilors
Experience in local government preferred but really not necessary
A lot of DCC staff voted for Vandervis simply to have a chance of removing Sue and her senior team. The staff do not have confidence in her anymore. They did for her first 12 months but its gone. Speak up at this Council and her 2IC will eat you alive

With STV, changing the helm will be difficult. Only when the helm is changed will the CEO be displaced......If the people of Dunedin really want a change, get out and push for a citizens initiated referendum to change the voting system from STV. Then get out and vote for our councillors of choice. Then you may see a change in CEO. Then we may see Dunedin finally run by a fairly elected Council. It's the long game....sadly.
Talk about stacking the cards, watching the council meeting those councillors are all in Hawkins pocket. who is in Bidrose's pocket, so unfair to other councillors and very unfair to Dunedin's people. the place is rigged. some might say bullying at its best
