Plans for an e-scooter race through North Dunedin will be closely monitored by both the Dunedin City Council and police.
Details of the April 22 race, from Castle St to Leith St in North Dunedin using Lime e-scooters, were posted online this week.
Dunedin City Council community services manager Simon Pickford said Lime contacted the council about the event yesterday morning.
The council had also advised police about the event, but there was nothing either could do about the race.
''It's something we will watch with interest, but at this stage as long as they obey the rules there's not much that can be done,'' Mr Pickford said.
Lime city launcher Matt McNeill said while the company was happy for its community of riders to organise events, safety was its primary concern.

'Safety was it's primary concern,' says Lime. Good to hear Mr. McNeill, I expect to see Lime fully involved in scrutineering this event, ensuring helmets are worn by participants in order to prove it.
a total joke - Lime has scootered all over NZTA, NZ Police and DCC... profit first, despite all their pious mouthings...
