The 1903 house and clinic of New Zealand's first female medical graduate, Emily Siedeberg, who graduated from the University of Otago in the late 1800s, is for sale.

More than 110 years after 75 York Pl was purpose-built for Dr Siedeberg, it is still home to two commercial healthcare practices.

Dr Siedeberg lived in the two-storey home with her mother and siblings, using part of the ground floor as her consultancy practice.

Bayleys Dunedin director Robin Hyndman said following Dr Siedeberg's death, it was used by Otago Polytechnic's arts and nursing faculties, then, under private ownership in the early 2000s, was further remodelled, but closer to the original 1900s layout.

''The remodelling and refurbishment programme undertaken on the property in the late 2000s saw the plumbing, electrical wiring and interior decor all brought up to a modern standard,'' Mr Hyndman said.

The capital value of the freehold York Pl land and building is $965,000.

It has a commercial tenancy layout on the ground floor and four individual residential spaces upstairs, with communal kitchen and laundry.

Dr Siedeberg went on to become the medical superintendent of Dunedin's St Helen's Maternity Hospital, the first in New Zealand to feature an antenatal clinic, was a medical officer at Caversham Industrial School and anaesthetist at Dunedin Dental School. She was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1949 and died in 1968. Emily Siedeberg Pl in Dunedin was named in her honour.
